It is in the efforts of coming up with inventions that he has created two new devices which will make pediatric surgical procedures easy to carry out. For the past 40 years, he has worked on some complex pediatric surgical operations both in the United States and outside.

In the 1980s, he’s served in the Middle East as a private pediatric surgeon for the Saudi Royal family. He has also traveled to Jerusalem and West Bank on eight different medical missions that involved offering free medical care to poor children.

The Electromagnetic Catheter

The electromagnetic catheter is the first patented invention by Dr. Saad Saad. This device have a broad range of functions in the medical profession. During some treatment procedures, these tubes can be inserted inside the body. They are commonly used to drain fluids and gases as well as accessing other surgical instruments.

Due to some reasons, the catheter can be left inside the patient’s body able temporarily or permanently. When the catheter has to be placed inside the body, the surgeon needs to know the exact position where it will be fixed. However, these two options are not the best since they have disadvantages which make it harder for physicians to carry out the work. The x-ray is cumbersome to the physician as well as exposing the patient to radiations with might be unhealthy in cases of frequent scanning. The MRI machines are considered heavy and impractical to move around.

Faced by the challenges of using the above two options, Dr. Saad Saad decided to create a device that could locate the position of the catheter without the need for a scanning machine. He created an electromagnetic location identification device which could allow a catheter to be positioned inside the body without scanning.

The electromagnetic location identification device can be compared to the metal detector in that it is used externally to locate the position of an internally located object. Through this invention, doctors can give patients an opportunity to avoid the x-rays and MRI scans.
