CEO Promises Customers A New Papa John’s

Pizza corporation Papa John’s has had to deal with the fallout of problematic statements from a former executive. As per Bloomberg, with a new CEO in charge of the company’s future, Steve Ritchie, the company is looking for ways to reach out to customers who’ve sworn off the brand and those on the fence. Ritchie chose to address these groups in a cautiously prepared letter.

In his first major statement to the public, Ritchie, who’s been with the company for decades, admits that Papa John’s has been having a rough time recently. Insensitive statements led to charges of a culture that enables racism, something no company wants to be associated with. But stated emphatically that a company the size of Papa John’s is more than the words of any single spokesman, it’s the product of tens of thousands of employees.

To better serve and represent all those different groups of people, Ritchie announced that consultants have been hired to take a closer look at their hiring practices and diversity policy, to perform an audit that shows where they need improvement. With their faults highlighted, Ritchie aims to improve in the immediate future, so Papa John’s can better reflect the kind of company it wants to be. This will require Ritchie’s direct involvement if he is to regain public trust.

When compared to previous statements intended to calm public criticism, Ritchie’s statement seems to be more effective. In addition to taking responsibility for the company’s failure to live up to it’s own code of conduct, Ritchie set goals for the company that consumers will be able to notice.

A change in leadership will bring about change in overall business, Ritchie has claimed. This isn’t just an effort at eliminating a harmful culture at Papa John’s, it’s a promise made to those 120,000 employees.
