Securus Technologies has acquired the government payment processing company, GovPayNet, according to a press release dated January 4, 2018. This moves comes just 18 months after the company purchased payment processor, JPay. They will now have the capability to process over 40 million payments per year. GovPayNet specializes in credit and debit payment processing for over 2,300 government agencies in 35 states, covering over 26% of counties nationwide. Examples of the payments the company processes includes property tax, criminal and traffic fines, cash bail, and others.
GovPayNet is located in Indianapolis and is headed by CEO Mark MacKenzie, who will stay in the position, and has been in business since 1997. This is just the latest in a large number of acquisition that Securus Technologies has made in the past 15 years, as the company owns over 20 subsidiaries in its portfolio. A number of these include Archonix Systems, CellBlox, JPay, Telurus, JOBView, and T-Netix, among others.
Securus Technologies is a holding company that specializes in providing technology-based services to government agencies, mostly corrections facilities. They have contracts with over 3,500 institutions and provide services to over 1.2 million inmates across North America. The company is headquartered in Dallas, Texas and has over 1,000 employees across four regional offices in Texas and Atlanta, Georgia.
